SHAO YAO GAN CAO WAN Uses and Benefits
This formula from the Shang Han Lun (Cold Induced Disorders) is used to relieve muscle spasms from combined Liver Blood Stagnation and Spleen Qi Vacuity. It is also used to neutralize toxicity from unprepared aconite (FU ZI).

Common Modifications
With fixed pain, switch out BAI SHAO with CHI SHAO
With accompanying cold add GAN JIANG or ROU GUI
With accompanying heat add a small amount of HUANG LIAN or HUANG QIN
For lower body involvement add NIU XI.
For abdominal support add XIANG FU or ZHI KE
