Pyrola 11 - Seven Forests
Er Lu Gu Zhen Pian: Pyrola 11 as Replacement for Gecko-A
Pyrola 11 is based on the well-known patent formula Gejie Bushen Wan (Gecko Kidney Nourishing Pills) and the traditional prescription Gu Zhen Tang, both utilized for tonifying YANG and QI.
By Subhuti Dharmananda, Ph.D., Director, Institute for Traditional Medicine (ITM), Portland, Oregon
In late August 2019, a gathering of treaty members for CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species) voted to place the gecko on the endangered species list and not permitted in international trade. (There should be no problem with species recovery for geckos due to the very wide geographic area where these reptiles are commonly found.)
The replacement selected is a plant, rather than animal: pyrola, Lu Xian Cao (aka Lu Han Cao, Lu Ti Cao). With this change, the formula had to be renamed, and it is now Pyrola 11. All of the former ingredients of Gecko-A apart from gecko were retained, and in their same proportions. Thus, the formula actions and indications are unchanged.
