This herb is useful for a wide range of circumstances.  For those with Lung YIN or Lung QI deficiencies, WU WEI ZI astringes Lung Essence, preventing the loss of fluid and Essential QI.  Schizandra also has a mild calming effect, making it useful for restoring good sleep and reducing restlessness.  Its astringent nature can be especially useful in addressing Spleen Deficiency resulting in chronic diarrhea or loose stool.

For people who are constipated, schizandra should be combined with lubricating herbs, so as to neutralize its astringent effects. For example:
