Bai Tou Weng Tang Uses
- Diarrhea caused by Fire toxin in the stomach and intestines with pus and/or blood in the stool.
- Anal pain
- Abdominal pain
- Tenesmus, Burning
- Stool Contains Blood and Pus
TCM Dx
- Damp-Heat in Colon (Damp-Heat Dysentery)
- Hot dysenteric disorder due to Heat and toxin searing the Stomach and Intestines
- Jue Yin Stage dysenteric disorder due to Heat
The use of BAI TOU WENG TANG is indicated when Damp-Heat or a toxin enters the Blood level causing the above symptoms. Compared to SHAO YAO TANG, BAI TOU WENG TANG better clears Heat and detoxifies, while SHAO YAO TANG is better at moving the Qi. Thus SYT is best used where there is more pain and less less Heat or toxicity, and BTWT is indicated with other signs of toxicity, such as skin inflammation.

- Do not use long term.
- Contraindicated for those with Spleen and Stomach Yang Deficiency.
