Herbal Remedy Supports Normal Digestion

Source QI  is a complicated proprietary formula designed for good digestive health, which can be used in a number of different conditions. Some of which are diagnosed by Western medicine to be IBS, (Inflammatory Bowel Syndrome).  Basically, this diagnosis means that medical examinations and diagnostic tests have not revealed the cause of intestinal symptoms.  IBS is considered an auto-immune disease.  Chinese herbs can often help as much in these situations as do Western drugs, partly because TCM diagnostics provide the cause and (potentially) the cure.

The formula contains 15 herbs; many are Spleen Tonics, such as REN SHEN ginseng root, SHAN YAO dioscoria, BAI ZHU atractylodes, and FU LING poria, as would be expected, however some herbs have actions that extend the reach of the formula and serve to balance the combination.  For example, astringent herbs which reduce diarrhea, such as CHUN GEN PI, LIAN ZI, and QIAN SHI, are modified by ROU DOU KOU, which promotes bowel movement and is often used against constipation.  Without the ROUO DOU KOU, the astringent herbs could turn diarrhea into constipation, not the best outcome. With it, the formula is more balanced, and likely to provide bowel normalcy.

Severe Spleen deficiency combined with internal cold can result in organ prolapse, most commonly rectal prolapse. The formula is also designed to discourage prolapse by providing HUANG QI astragalus, and SHENG MA, Cimicifuga, both of which 'Raise the Qi'.

SHEN QU, and, GAN JIANG are also included.  SHEN QU to reduce food stagnation and GAN JIANG to warm the interior.  Additionally, CHAI HU is provided to reduce stress, which often accompanies, and may be a causal factor of conditions such as IBS.
