It is believed that people who consumed coix as a food grain have a lower incidence of stomach cancer.
The book Anti-Cancer Medicinal Herbs recommends 30-60 grams of coix, together with glutinous rice to be taken as a porridge for stomach and esophageal cancer. Another recommendation is to grind one pound coix with 150 grams of pseudoginseng (SANQI) into powder, taking 15 grams three times a day.
An extract of coix, under the name Kanglaite, was developed for potential treatment of cancer. Studies conducted in China during the 1990s, showed its potential for the treatment of liver and lung cancer.
