A strong Spleen creates abundant Qi. When the Spleen is weak, digestion is impaired, and Qi energy is reduced. Spleen YANG deficiency often effects the Stomach as well. Sufferers can experience a sensation of coldness in the stomach, abdominal pain, bloating, diarrhea, vomiting, and cold limbs. This condition is often triggered by over use of cold beverages or cold food.  These symptoms can often be relieved with the application of warmth to the effected area.

Fu Zi Li Zhong Tang enhances Spleen and Stomach Yang. The chief herb is FU ZI, Processed Aconite root.  This is the most effective herb for restoring the Yang and dispersing cold; SHENG JIANG Ginger reinforces this action. DANG SHEN Codonopsis builds Qi and harmonizes the Spleen. BAI ZHU Atractylodes tonifies the Spleen and and removes Dampness; GAN CAO Licorice tonifies QI and potentiates the other herbs.

Fu Zi Li Zhong Wan has been studied for its effect on digestive disorders like gastritis, enteritis, and gastric ulcers with satisfactory results. In one study, Fu Zi Li Zhong Tang was used to treat 28 patients with a history of gastric ulcer or peptic ulcer. After a month, 24 were clinically recovered.
