Ban Xia Xie Xin Tang (Pinellia Decoction to Drain the Epigastrium) is an 1800 year old classical formula used for nausea, bloating, loose stool, and poor appetite.

Ban Xia Xie Xin Tang appears in the Shang Han lun (Treatise on Cold Induced Disorders). As this formula can encourage the downward flow of Stomach qi, it is used for “Pi syndrome”, characterized by 'stomach heat' with bloating in the epigastric region. This condition can also present with heart like symptoms like restlessness, anxiety, or insomnia. this is why Ban Xia Xi Xin Tang is often employed in the treatment of mental and emotional disturbances.
